My girlfriend and I want to move to Massachusetts. What are some open minded cities to live in that are not expensive?
every town in mass is pretty open minded. the state as a whole hasnt even had a republican offical since 1999. nowhere.
every town in mass is expensive too.
some less than others obviously, but really, its depending on where you are coming from and what you are used to.
We have a Republican Governor.

Actually, UMass Amherst is in Amherst.
We were actually really interested in Northhampton. Can you tell me more about it? It seems to be the area where everyone is suggesting we go.
How are things spaced apart? Would I have to drive a long distance to get to places, etc?
Also, the Amherst area has about 7 great colleges (everything from UMass Amherst to Smith College)
Do us all a favor and don't move here!!!
Most everywhere in the state is pretty open-minded. We have a few vocal closed-minded folks, but on the whole, the Massachusetts way is, "You do what's right for you, I do what's right for me"
If you're looking for inexpensive cities, try western Massachusetts. Amherst and Northampton are both great cities that are open minded. If you're looking to be closer to Boston, I would recommend Jamaica Plain, Lowell, Tewksbury, Milford, and even Attleboro. Living in eastern MA is expensive comparitively speaking, but are worth mentioning anyways.
